Q1a- Explain the term ‘social grade’ in the context of identifying target audiences.
Social grade in the context of identifying target audiences is when people are targeted based on their status and class for example ABC1 or C2DE.

Q1b- Explain two interpretations that could be made about the demographics of large TV screen ownership.
Difference in terms of age, as middle aged people are likely to have a higher disposable income.
Difference in social grades as the higher social grade=more disposable income.

2 Use Fig. 2 in the insert and your own knowledge to answer the following questions.
  1. (a)  Explain what the term ‘timeshifting’ means.
The term time shifting means, when a programme is stored to be viewed after the live broadcasting such as channel 4 +1 or any +1 channel an example of this is Eastenders being viewed on Friday but also the same time on Saturday

  2. (b)  Using your own knowledge, explain three reasons why the ‘timeshifting’ of television viewing may be increasing.

1)it can be aired again but at a more prime time meaning the viewership will be higher if it is on a saturday afternoon than if it is on early mornings such as 3am

    2)people are increasingly more busy

    3) Tv is portable so can be viewed on more than just a tv and can watch it on their phones when it is on demand

Comments

  1. Good responses to the exam questions and the bottom, and good job on analysing the graphs.

You're explaining your justifications, which will help support the "explain" questions.
